Barry Island Beach (Popular Tourist Beach)

Barry Island is a classic Welsh seaside resort just outside Cardiff. The beach is sandy and wide, surrounded by arcades, amusements, fish and chip shops, and a lively promenade. It’s popular with families and has become even more well-known thanks to its TV fame in Gavin & Stacey.

Dog-Friendly: Dogs are not allowed on the main beach from May 1 – Sept 30.

Parking: Large pay-and-display car parks nearby.

Distance from Cardiff: Approximately 10 miles / 30 minutes by car.

Llantwit Major Beach (Dog-Friendly Beach)

Llantwit Major is a rocky, dramatic beach popular for fossil hunting, coastal walking, and surfing. Surrounded by cliffs, it’s much quieter than Barry and ideal for exploring with dogs. There's a small café and toilet block at the top of the slipway.

Dog-Friendly: Yes, dogs are allowed year-round.

Parking: Free public car park above the beach.

Distance from Cardiff: Approximately 20 miles / 40 minutes by car.
